Easter Bunny

This year Sydney actually asked to see the bunny. We were at some store that put all of the Easter goodies front & center for her to have a heart attack about, so off course the conversation about how Mommy doesnt buy you Easter goodies every time we go to the store... the EASTER BUNNY brings it to you on Easter morning. I actually went into how we celebrate Jesus' resurrection with a treat from Easter Bunny (like Santa on Christmas)... and this turned into the deepest conversation I've had with her yet. She is so analytical.

What is resurrection? Why doesnt Jesus bring me treats? Does the bunny come from Heaven? Why not? Does he live in a cave? Where? Does Jesus get an Easter basket too? How come? What is the Easter bunny's real name?

I have my limits.

I told her to ask the Easter bunny himself.
So for a week, now, it's all she's talked about.

Saturday morning, she is jumping on Andy to hurry and take a shower so we can see the bunny. We primped her up real cute for pictures and off we went.

Get to Barton Creek mall, and as soon as her eyes lit up at the sight of the Easter bunny 'dwelling', the dreams were crushed. The woman at the counter informed us that the bunny was "sick" and couldn't make it in this morning. Code for "hungover". So we had to come up with a plan B... I went to the bathrooms while Andy took Syd into Foot Action. I walk out and meet back up with them just outside of Foot Action and Andy looks a little more chipper (for a guy who was tackled at 8am by a 3yo and dragged out of the house without breakfast)... turns out he saw the equivalent of 'his' Easter bunny. Vince Young was at the cash register buying a pair of shoes. Andy couldnt go talk to him himself, but his attempts to get Sydney to go up and say something cute to him were a failure. (he saw the answer on my face before even asking... and no, I am not going to invite him to lunch).

Who is Vince Young?

So plan B... drive another 35 minutes north to the next mall and see if that Easter bunny skipped the bars last night and is stellar enough for a meeting with our 3yo.

2 hours and 45 minutes into our journey, we finally see the Easter bunny. Sydney says "is this where his doctor is? is he feeling better?".

One more instance where we realize you can't say ANYTHING around this child without her hearing... even when it looks like she's distracted with big, giant display eggs and glitter.

I avoid that conversation with "Sydney look! you better hurry and get in line!"... and that worked.

It came to her turn and she gave the bunny a big high-five and jumped on his lap and gladly posed for several pictures like Miley Cyrus at the opening of "Hannah Montanna the movie". But after all that curiosity and desperation for more information... she was simply satisified by "I go by Mr. Bunny sometimes".

I thought for sure, Sydney wouldn't let him get away with that.

  1. Who is Vince Young? Sara-sometimes I don't believe that you were born & raised in Austin...

Was it really VY? Is this like the time you saw Derek Jeter and confused him for ARod (Alex Rodriguez)?
